Your child will have an 'early skills' reading book in their bag. These books have no words as yet as they are designed to encourage children to develop their language and knowledge of using books by looking at the pictures, making up stories through talking about the pictures and discussing what they see. You can also ask your child questions about the pictures in their book and encourage them to answer these using full sentences rather than just 1 word answers. They will also have a library book. This is for an adult to read to them and the story and the pictures can be shared together.
We would also ask that each time you spend time looking at books with your child, you write a short comment in their blue reading record books. Please try to do this at least 4 times a week and this will really help your child develop their reading skills. If your child has read 4 times in a week, they will get reward stickers on their chart - which will build up towards receiving a treat!
Thank you for your support
Our topic for the second half of the Spring term will be 'Nursery Rhymes'
We will be completing topic work every week on a Friday - our 'Topic Day'
We will be learning lots of nursery rhymes and focusing particularly on 'Old King Cole' 'Incy Wincy Spider' 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' and 'Pat a cake'
If you feel you have any ideas or skills which could support us with these themes, please come and share them with us - we would love to hear them.
We also have a traditional story that we focus on each half term and this half term we are learning the story of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'
