If you could read with your child as often as possible (at least 3 times a week or more) this would be extremely beneficial to their progress. 5 or 10 minutes each night is all it needs. Taking time looking at the pictures and sounding out the words. At the end of the story it is helpful if you can ask some simple questions about what they have just read as this helps their understanding and comprehension skills. Thank you!!
Twice a year a SMART homework will be given out, this is a chance to get creative with your child. It would be brilliant if you all got on board to complete this task.
Your child will also be given 'Bear words', please help your child to recognise and read these words,it will really help their reading and will eventually help them in their writing also.
Bear word list:
1. I like my mum dad ball
2. look and cat dog house at
3. to play big the can went with
4. am see we is this bus here going
Thank you for your support.
Our topic for the first half term in 'People who help Us'. During this topic we will be learning about all the different people who help us from firefighters and police officers to doctors and nurses.
We will also be learning all our sounds and then how to use these to help us read and write. The children will take part in daily phonics and literacy sessions.
As well as learning how to read and write, we will be learning our numbers to 10 and beyond as well as learning all about shape, space and measures.
If you feel you have any ideas or skills which could support us with these themes, please come and share them with us - we would love to hear them. We would also love any parental support in listening to readers in both classes.

Thank you again
Please keep up your child's reading practise over the Summer holidays in order that they maintain the skills they have learnt in reception, ready for their new start in Year 1. Any books can be used for practising these skills - books you have at home, or visit the library and borrow some books for free. It will really help your child if you are able to do this with them.
